Peking Duck Sandwich Stall

Just a block from the end of the #7 train stop in Flushing, this stand is one of my favorite places to nosh in NYC. Duck buns are just $1 each. Great to nibble on while you decide where to eat dinner in the neighborhood.

The Modern

Located inside the Museum of Modern Art, this Alsatian-inspired menu from Danny Meyer’s Union Hospitality Group offers two different dining rooms. I love this space for a power lunch in Midtown, especially if you’re planning to check out the MoMA afterward.

Strömmingsvagnen

The fried herring stand at Slussen – fried herring may seem like a strange concept here, but there’s a reason it’s so popular overseas. Strömmingsvagnen

Jaleo

José Andrés’ lively Spanish restaurant, on the 4th floor of the Cosmopolitan, features a massive, wood-burning fire pit to make paella; tapas are a must here. There’s also a private room in the back featuring his more intimate, Minibar-inspired, multi-course tasting menus (reservations required).

Quilon

Authentic southern and southwestern Indian food (from Kerala to Goa), with an emphasis on seafood, around the corner from Buckingham Palace. This was just completely remodeled in the winter of ’12, mainly by the Taj Hotel group, and now the atmosphere matches the exquisite food. Quilon 41 Buckingham Gate, London SW1E 6AF; +44 20 7821 1899

5th Floor of Harvey Nichols

The luxury retailer’s fifth floor is legendary for its stylish champagne bar, café, food market, and wine shop. Check out the deli counter and sweets display – the unusual items found there are sure to stimulate curiosity. 5th Floor 109-125 Knightsbridge, London, UK SW1X 7RJ; (+44) 20 7235 5250

The Ginger Pig

This butcher shop’s philosophy is simple: raise happy animals, sell top quality meat. Stop in to chat with knowledgeable butchers or pick up a meat pie – a small assortment is always on hand. The Ginger Pig 8-10 Moxon Street, Marylebone, London W1U 4EW; (+44) 20 7935 7788

Freddy’s Pizzeria

Well worth the trip to the heart of Cicero, this family-run grocery/café/gelateria is a gem and a throwback. Hearty, homemade portions, great food to-go, a casual little patio and among the best gelato in the region.

Telegraph

Former Avec sous chef runs the kitchen here, and the wine bar (from the folks at Webster’s Wine Bar and The Bluebird) is the latest addition to Logan Square. Extensive, affordable wine list and fairly adventurous food. Great alternative to perennially-packed Longman & Eagle down the block.
