A Midwestern Taste Tour This Weekend

Indiana's renowned breaded pork tenderloin sandwich is one of the Midwestern dishes that will be offered during the Greater Midwest Food Alliance's symposium.

Every great road trip experience is marked by dinner at a historic, family-owned diner after a long day of driving. To commemorate the spirit of food and travel, the Greater Midwest Food Alliance is presenting Road Food: Exploring the Midwest One Bite at a Time, a three-day conference that begins today and runs through Sunday.

The fifth annual symposium takes place at Kendall College and other locations around the city, a fitting choice as Chicago is the starting point of the famous U.S. Route 66 Highway.

The event features keynote speaker Michael Stern, the best-selling author of the Roadfood series. Other speakers include Chicago Sun-Times writer Dave Hoekstra, Smart Museum Deputy Director Stephanie Smith and chef/food blogger Louisa Chu.

In addition to lectures, the event also includes a food truck dinner tonight and local specialties such as Illinois horseshoe sandwich, Indiana breaded pork tenderloin sandwich and Nebraska runzaplus during Saturday’s lunch.
