Come On Highwood Light My Fire
The city of Highwood isn’t shy about its marketing efforts. Every September they pack the sleepy downtown with vodka and tomato juice for its annual Bloody Mary Fest, and this week, for the second year in a row, they’re kicking off Inferno Fest. The event happens on Wednesday the 17th, from 4 to 9 p.m. in Everts Park (130 Highwood Ave.) and features a lot of spicy food, including: spicy honey from Wildtree Honey; hot cocktails from the Silver Dollar Tavern; red hot chicken taquitos and tamales from La Casa de Isaac and a peppery dessert from Ice Box ice cream. There will be a People’s Choice competition, free cooking demos, an all-you-can-eat hot tamale contest and family activities. Not sure why it’s on a Wednesday, but who knows. Maybe there are just too many things going on during the busy weekends in Highwood.
