Highwood Bloody Mary Fest This Weekend
You have to hand it to Highwood. The tiny, bedroom community on the North Shore has become the envy of similarly sleepy hamlets, by ramping up for yet another fest that attracts attendees from all over. There’s Garlic Fest, Pumpkin Fest and for the 6th year in a row, Bloody Mary Fest. Mom and dad might want to get a babysitter this Sunday, if they plan on sampling from more than a dozen different bars and restaurants. I judged this event a few years ago, and I can tell you that later in the day, the noise level rises a bit, even in the bucolic park that plays host to the action.
The judging begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday, the 26th, with a lineup of celebrity judges choosing the Best Bloody Mary, with attendees choosing a People’s Choice. Winners announced at 4:30 p.m. There’s more than vodka and tomato juice of course, including food, a beer truck and live bands. The event raises awareness for Jordan’s Corner, a fitness and boxing organization that works with kids and teens with special needs. There’s a suggested $2 donation at the gate.
