Raku

You can always find Vegas’ best chefs dining here, huddled over beautifully-grilled Kobe Beef from Oregon, free-range organic chicken from California, Kurobuta Pork from Iowa or just pristine sliced fish air-shipped from Tsukiji, Japan. They use imported binchotan charcoal from Japan as well, which provides high heat as they sear items over the grill. This … Continued

Sage

Chicago-based chef Shawn McClain has established himself with such restaurants as Spring and Green Zebra, but this Vegas original (inside the Aria Resort & Casino) combines seriously delicious food served in a tastefully-appointed room with a very Midwestern sensibility (that is, it’s fine for gourmands as well as the average Joe). Wagyu beef tartar and … Continued

Mile End Delicatessen

If you long for Montreal-style smoked meat and bagels, this is the place for you. Tucked away on a quiet street in Brooklyn, I instantly fell for the viande fume (smoked meat) which is really just corned beef that’s been smoked after its been cured. I also love that they bring in their bagels from … Continued

King’s Noodle Restaurant

Most locals will tell you that the real Chinese food is being prepared and served in the suburbs these days, but if you don’t have a car and you’re only in town for a day or two, I would recommend King’s Noodle House in Chinatown. Their barbecued ducks are impeccable, and I particularly love their … Continued

Ruby Watchco

Local celeb chef Lynn Crawford (formerly of The Four Seasons) has returned home after stints in NYC, and has created a comfy restaurant where everything is served family-style. Her passion for local farmers is made evident on every menu. Menus rotate almost daily, so best to call ahead or check online to see what they’re … Continued

Wvrst

Sausage emporium featuring more than a dozen options, served in a casual, communal dining room. Well-chosen beer list complements most of the choices.

Acadia

Casual, neighborhood restaurant featuring the dishes of the American South; served in a slightly more refined manner. Nice selection of cocktails, including juleps and sazeracs too.

Caplansky’s Deli

Jewish deli that cures, smokes and slices delicious brisket, in the style of Montreal’s famous viande fume purveyors. Also, great sandwiches and other heart-clogging goodies inspired by Eastern Europe.

avec

One of my favorite places to eat in Chicago. Refined rusticity, with an eye toward the Mediterranean. Craveable dishes complemented by an ambitious wine list.

Lotus of Siam

One of the best restaurants off of The Strip, and a must-visit for Thai food lovers. Without question, the best wine list ever to appear in a strip mall.

The Bazaar

Culinary darling José Andrés continues his American “Spanish food boom” with the Bazaar at the SLS Hotel, which has a buzzy and innovative (some would say frenetic) tapas menu, loaded with locally sourced ingredients. Think Willy Wonka meets El Bulli. The Bazaar 465 S La Cienega Blvd., Beverly Hills, CA 90048, (310) 246-5555
