Chicago Food Social Hits Town This Weekend
This Saturday will be a food lover’s portable paradise in Chicago. Not only will you have The Nosh at Wicker Park to contemplate (from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the parking lot behind the A.N. Pritzker School in Wicker Park), but there’s also the 2013 Chicago Food Social in the parking lot of Kendall College (900 N. North Branch). This latter event is the re-concepted replacement for the successful Food Truck Social of 2011 & 2012, which attracted over 20,000. The new event will still feature a selection of the best local food trucks, plus a curated group of notable chef-driven restaurant vendors, a cocktail lounge, and live music programmed by Empty Bottle Presents.
Food trucks participating so far include: 5411 Empanadas, Beavers Coffee & Donuts, Greek Eats, Husky Hog BBQ, Starfruit (Lifeway Foods), Tamale Spaceship, Two Italians, Wagyu Wagon and Windy City Patty Wagon. The restaurants who’ve agreed to sell items there include: Big Star, Publican Quality Meats, Rootstock and Longman and Eagle.
There’s a $5 admission fee, but proceeds benefit Share Our Strength’s Cooking Matters, a national non-profit program attempting to end childhood hunger in America. Chef demonstrations will take place in between band set times on a stage adjacent to the Empty Bottle Presents live music stage. The event runs from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m.
