Taste of the Nation Returns to Chicago
There are only a handful of charitable events I get involved in each year, and each of them deals with eradicating and alleviating hunger. I’m excited to announce the 25th annual Share Our Strength Taste of the Nation® is coming back to Chicago August 14th at the Navy Pier Ballroom. This year’s lineup is a who’s-who of the local food and drink scene.
More than 2,000 guests are expected to attend this year’s event. Tastemakers leading the event include RJ Melman (Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises’ HUB 51, Paris Club, RPM Italian, Bub City), Pastry Chef Elissa Narow (Perennial Virant and Vie Restaurants), and mixologists, Debbi Peek and Kyle McHugh.
“The number of children struggling with hunger in America now totals almost 1 in 5, and that number is even higher in our home state of Illinois, at 1 in 4,” said Melman.
With the government’s recent cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) food assistance program, the need is greater than ever before to draw local and national attention to the issue of childhood hunger.
Since the first event in 1988, Taste of the Nation has granted more than $80 million total, and $3 million in Chicago alone, to combat hunger. Taste of the Nation supports No Kid Hungry™, a Share Our Strength campaign that grants funds to local and state-wide nonprofit organizations that work to end childhood hunger in their communities.
