NYC Sushi Day Trip

In 2014, I led a small group of six to New York City for a one-day trek to three outstanding sushi bars, and was able to show the difference between various methods for slicing fish, seasoning rice and presenting an omakase (tasting menu). We began with a commercial flight out of Chicago, then hit the ground running, heading straight to Kurumazushi, where we took over the counter and spoke with our chef the entire lunch. Then we walked over to Sushi Yasuda for lunch #2, where we tackled pretty much the entire assortment of nigiri. Finally, an early dinner at Sushi Azabu, for the best meal of the day, where a modified omakase sent us off into the night, on our way to a private charter jet for the short flight home.
