Raviolo at Davanti Enoteca
Just about every Italian restaurant on Taylor Street, in Little Italy, serves the same lineup: penne with vodka sauce, eggplant parm and veal milanese. But Davanti Enoteca has been a standout since it opened a few months ago, mainly due to its excellent lineup of cured meats and cheeses, as well as some boldly-flavored antipasti and creatively matched vegetables and seafood. Oddly enough, the restaurant is directly across the street from Francesca’s, which has a more mainstream menu, and yet, shares the same owners. One of the dishes that stands out is the raviolo in brown butter. It’s a dish they pulled from the legendary San Domenico in Italy, notable for its sheer simplicity and yet, lack of Taylor Street cliché.
